Before I share these 10 tips and strategies with you, let’s first take a quick look at what exactly blog marketing is.
Blog marketing is really just a term that refers to any strategy you use to promote your blog and drive traffic back to your blog. This includes internet marketing, email marketing, social media marketing and even social media optimization. In the end, the goal of a blog marketing strategy is to build authority for your blog and drive high quality free targeted traffic back to your blog.
The good news is that it’s not that hard to set up an effective strategy to help you promote your blog. Marketing your blog is very important, and by following the 10 tips and strategies I’m about to share with you, you’ll have a niche head start to help you get started.
#1: Focus on quality, keyword-optimized content
The very first think you should do is focus on your content. Even though this tip isn’t really a “blog marketing” strategy, it’s still a very important part of this tip list. The reason is simple – by creating high quality, keyword-optimized content on your blog, you will increase the chances of your content ranking higher in search engines. This, in return, will provide you with large amounts of highly-targeted organic visitors to your blog.
Organic traffic refers to any unpaid traffic that comes to your website through search engine results.
#2: When it comes to building backlinks, quality beats quantity
Building backlinks to your blog is an important part of your blog marketing strategy. Many bloggers try to create as many backlinks to their blog in as little time as possible, thinking that it will help their blog rank higher in search engines. Sorry to burst your bubble – but this is NOT how it works.
When it comes to following a well-planned blog marketing strategy, it’s important to realize that there are backlinks that can actually hurt your rankings rather than get you better rankings. Building too many backlinks in a short period of time can also hurt your rankings.
So, when it comes to building backlinks to your blog, set up a good blog marketing strategy that will allow you to focus on quality rather than quantity. Before creating a backlink, check the PageRank, Page Authority and Domain Authority of the website or page you are about to create a backlink on. If the site you want to use to create a backlink doesn’t have a good ranking, a backlink might not do any good. Try to target websites with higher rankings when building backlinks, and take some time to do proper research on the quality of backlinks you are building.
#3: Social media should be a top priority
a Social media presence for your blog is essential. You NEED to be active within social media networks if you expect your blog to grow – no matter what niche you’re targeting or what your blog is about.
Be sure to include social media marketing in your blog marketing strategy as one of the top priorities. Your blog should have a social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google Plus and LinkedIn. You can also target other social media networks as there’s always new ones popping up.
Ensure you add a profile picture, cover picture, bio and a link back to your blog on every account or page you create for your blog. This will give you a backlink on some networks, and drive free website traffic to your blog.
#4: Social sharing
Social sharing can make your blog and posts go viral. By including social sharing buttons on your blog, you are giving your blog readers the ability to easily share your posts on their social media walls, giving you more exposure and more traffic at the same time. This also increases your blog’s social signals, giving your search rankings a boost.
Make sure to place your social sharing buttons in a relatively easy to spot location, like underneath your post’s title or at the bottom of your post. These buttons should be present on all your posts and allow for easy sharing among different social media networks.
#5: Add a list building strategy
List building should always be included in your blog marketing strategy. Why? Because it works!
By adding a subscription form to your blog, anyone who wants to get regular updates from you will be able to enter their email address and subscribe to your list. This not only adds email addresses to your list, but helps you built a list of targeted subscribers who are already interested in what you are offering on your blog.
Building a list holds many benefits, including the ability to promote content to your direct target marketing, and the ability to profit from a single prospect multiple times.
#6: Engage with your audience
Engaging with your audience is one of the best ways to build trust and authority for your blog’s brand. The more engagement you partake, the better known your brand will become, and the more authority you build for yourself, as well as for your brand.
Make frequent visits to all your social media accounts and interact with your followers. Reply to their posts, answer questions asked by your audience, etc. If anyone mentions you on social media networks, reach out to them. Use your creativity and explore as many strategies you can think of to engage with your audience in a positive way.
#7: Become an authority in your niche
When you become an authority in your niche, it means people immediately recognize your name as an expert, and they trust whatever you publish on your blog, or on any other website. This is probably the best way to boost your blog’s statistics through the roof!
To become an authority in your niche, you need to get your name out there. Build up a brand for your blog. Get your name out there and show the world that you are an expert on the topics you write about.
#8: Be open to suggestions
You might think that this tip isn’t really part of building a blog marketing strategy, but let me tell you how you can use the ability to be open to suggestions to improve your blog, which will result in more readers, more followers, a bigger list and, of course, more profit.
When you give people what they want, when you write about things that your audience want to read about, then you’re building up trust and authority. The problem is – you cannot read the brains of your audience. This means that, even with many hours of research, you will not be able to tell exactly what your audience wants you to write about, if you don’t ask them.
Creating a simple poll or survey will only take you a couple of minutes and will give you a lot of insight to help you grow and improve your blog. If you don’t want to set up a poll or survey, then write a short blog post and ask your audience what they want you to write about. Give them an email address and ask them to send you suggestions. To get more engagement, you could even offer a “backlink” to the person who’s suggestion you take’s website. This ought to get some suggestions coming in.
#9: Regular contests can go viral
Contests are a great way to get your site some viral traffic. All you need to do is find something you can give away – this can be a digital download or a physical product – and then offer it as a prize to a contest on your website. You should create an event on social media sites for your contest, and share your contest with as many people as you can.
The type of contest you will run depends on the type of blog you have. a Weight loss blog could ask readers to submit before and after photos of themselves, while a gaming blog might ask users to create a short video or review a game. The possibilities are endless – all you need to do is use your creativity and come up with a unique twist that will make visitors go bananas.
Apart from helping your content go viral, running regular contests on your blog is also a great way to increase engagement and grow your email list, which will in turn bring you more returning visitors.
I recently started running my own contest on The Profit Blogger. I will be adjusting the prize each month – this month (April) the prize is a shoutout on The Profit Blogger, as well as a nice SEO package for a search ranking boost. To enter, participants simply need to suggest a topic I should write about on my blog. #10: The video-blogging add-on
Video blogging is becoming more and more popular. Millions of users check into YouTube and other video sharing sites each and every day to catch the latest videos they are interested in – clearly something you want to be apart of!
By creating a video blog for your current blog, you will be able to tap into a brand new market and skyrocket the number of visitors coming to your website. Your videos can be as simple as you talking about a recent blog post, or reviewing a product.
When it comes to video-blogging, you want your videos to rank high in order to reap all the benefits of adding videos to your blog marketing strategy. Before publishing a video, make sure you do proper research to find keywords you can target and the right tags to use in your video. You should also always remember to add a link back to your website – not only will this link count as a backlink, but it will also immediately start to drive traffic back to your blog.
