Cloak Your Affiliate Links Like a Pro With These 2 FREE Plugins
Affiliate links are very valuable. Whenever someone clicks on your affiliate link and takes an action (buys something, fill out their email address, etc), you get paid by the advertiser. The problem is that people are getting smart – most visitors on your website will be able to easily identify an affiliate link, and there’s always a possibility that they will visit the initial domain, instead of clicking on your affiliate link. This means you lose out on commission.
Luckily there’s a way around this. a Way to hide your affiliate links, and present them in a far better format to your visitors. This is called “cloaking your affiliate links”, and it works!
Cloaking Your Affiliate Links
By cloaking your affiliate links, you are creating an “alternative” link that redirects to the original affiliate link. This can be accomplished via different methods, but today we will be looking at some WordPress plugins that will cloak your affiliate links for you. These plugins are free, and will cloak your affiliate links with your own domain name, making the appearance of these links more professional, and more likely to be clicked on.
Alternatives to cloaking affiliate links
There are some alternatives to using a plugin to cloak your affiliate links. One would be to use a link tracker. Using link trackers, you will add your affiliate links and the platform will give you alternative links to promote. These alternative links will then give you more advance tracking statistics on all the clicks your alternative link receives – such as where all the clicks are coming from.
The problem with alternative methods
Even though these alternative methods can be very useful to help you hide and cloak your affiliate links, there are some cons to using them. One of the main disadvantages are the fact that your links can get blocked if they look suspicious, especially with goo.gl.
There’s also the problem that you don’t have advance statistics, and you have to go to an external website everytime you want to cloak a new affiliate link, or draw your stats.
WordPress plugins to the rescue
Here’s the best part – there’s a few WordPress plugins that you can plug into your WordPress website and instantly start cloaking your affiliate links. These plugins will give you branded cloaked links based on your own domain name – making the appearance much more professional than posting a shortened link.
These WordPress plugins also provides free versions that gives you everything you need to start cloaking your links.
Pretty Link Lite
The first plugin I want to introduce you to is called Pretty Link Lite. I personally use this plugin on all my blogs promoting affiliate links – I love it’s features!
Pretty Link Lite lets you shrink, track and manage your affiliate links and all other types of links from within your WordPress admin dashboard. The plugin also uses your own domain name to cloak links, making it seem like the links are on your own website. This makes it less obvious that you’re sharing an affiliate link, and increases the chances that someone will click the link.
Apart from letting you create custom links cloaked with your own domain name, Pretty Link Lite also offers integrated tracking. This means you are able to track the clicks on your cloaked links.

Tip: Pretty Link Lite is the lite version of “Pretty Link Pro”, a more advance link management plugin with many more features. To read more about Pretty Link Pro, visit https://prettylinkpro.com/
An alternative plugin to Pretty Link Lite is Simple URLs. This plugin is very similar to Pretty Link Lite – you can easily cloak affiliate links and brand the cloaked links with your own domain name.
Simple URLs also provides an integrated tracking system by using a custom field on each URL, and tracking clicks made on each link. The plugin also provides an alternative to the page redirection cloaking technique, which means issues with permalinks will not occur when using this plugin.

Both of these affiliate links management plugins will help you cloak and manage your affiliate links in a more professional way. They will also help you cloak affiliate links with your own domain, giving your affiliate links a more professional and less obvious appearance.
Depending on your requirements, you can use either one of the plugins I just mentioned. I personally prefer Pretty Link Lite, and an upgrade to Pretty Link Pro if the features of Pretty Link Lite doesn’t cut it. Simple URLs is also a great alternative and also provides all the features you need to cloak and manage your affiliate links like a pro.
